Hi All,

The thread I started asking about the ammo capacity of the Mk1a Spitfire made me think it might be an idea for us to perhaps share any good War aviation related books we have read.

I will start the list with the following:

"Scramble!" by W/Cdr J.R.D 'Bob' Braham who was apparently Britain's most decorated fighter pilot - flew night fighters mostly (no ISBN, too old)
"Night Fighter Ace" by Tony Spooner (about W/Cdr Bob Braham) ISBN: 0-7509-3473-5
"Shot Down In Flames" by Geoffrey Page ISBN: 1-902304-10-1
"Fighter Pilot" by Paul Richey ISBN: 0-85052-700-7

There's some I can highly recommend...

A Thousand Shall Fall by Murray Peden.

Peden describes his RCAF experience from raw recruit through pilot training, OTU and then on "ops" flying Stirlings. Eventually moves onto B-17s with 100 Group. His writing style is easy and descriptive. One can easily visualize what he is writing about. Not a "how I won the war" book, but "what my experiences" were. An excellent book on one man's experiences and one I have read many, many times and still like it!

Ghosts of Targets Past by Phillip Gray.

The recollections and experiences of a Lancaster pilot later in the war. Gray completed 13 trips before the war ended. (Phillip also works on our Lancaster project.) Pretty good book overall!

Cheers,
Clive. Stranded in the colonies (Canada)
