Rabbit Leader to Cowslip Control

« on: July 20, 2010, 09:16:20 PM »

Living close to Farnborough I paid a visit yesterday (Monday) to sit on Miles Hill which is at he western end of the display line, this was the opening day and we were blessed with sun and no cloud. The highlight had to be the F22 Raptor which put on a stunning display and with no cloud then max altitude...very impressive.

No camera I'm afraid but will be back on Friday with one..and video
Today ended with the 787 taking off and then returning for a single pass with a fighter escort...2 Spitfires, I did not manage to identify them, I'm sure someone will let us know.
Looked like the 787 departed for home as it climbed out west into airspace.

Carolyn,
Yes it is on the display line and you get a good view, I remember you coming in over my head on a number of times at previous shows.

Hoping to go back Friday with a couple of friends and the "Foresters" is on the way back so a cold beer or two to end the day will be most welcome, I will try not to fall off the bike.

It would be much better if you were displaying and would have been marvellous if you could have been part of the 787 escort !

Hi Andy,
If you are interested the two Spitfires were Mark1A AR213/G-AIST  and MarkXVIE TD248/G-OXVI both from Duxford. I saw them and the 787 from home just outside Reading, it was an unusual sight but I agree it definately would have been better if Carolyn had been part of it.

Hope your bike got you home,

Best wishes

Rob,
Thanks for the info on the Spits, I popped over to my usual spot on Sunday and at 1230 no clouds so the Reds did a high display (6000') which was good to see.

The Buchon/2 Spit display was very good, starting with a tail chase and then individual displays by the Buchon and then the Spits...three Merlins was music to my ears.
Also the HAC Hurricane did a solo dispay which was well executed and a pleasure to watch.

After ther show finished the Buchon/Spits lined up and departed and stayed low with the Buchon giving the hundreds of people on the hill and below a nice wing waggle and the 2 Spits doing a swap over behind, I then did see which ones they were.

I suppose the bonus was on Friday when the Lancaster arrived and did a flypast to land and due to the wind being 340-040 @6 kts requested to land on 06 rather than 24 as he stated "this old aircraft does not like tailwinds".
This meant a gentle turn and then back past where I was sitting so was level with me at about 200 yards distance....very nice.

Also the Vulcan took off on 24 displayed and then did the same landing on 06 so 2 of Avro's finest so close...what more can you ask for.

Oh well that's it for another 2 years...back to work this week....need I say more !!!

I was up at East Midlands airport on the date of these photo's, and I was told that it was due to stay the week, and display at the weekend, but it got recalled to Seattle for some reason, and was lucky to catch it at EMA in the afternoon on it's way home via EMA and Rolls-Royce Derby, so the afternoon shift at Sinfin could see it. 'cliick' on next two photo's to see more shots.
