I love ML407!

« on: December 08, 2010, 05:53:18 PM »

Today Steve and Richard have taken ML407 into their engineering hands.  De-panelling has begun and as ever, to my discomfort the seat will have been removed!

It is a 100 hour inspection this year and we anticipate her being operational by the end of January to 'catch the early worm' of possible displays as in previous years.

She looked beautiful when I saw her last - Steve had cleaned her to perfection ready for a late display booking we had on 27th November.  It did not go ahead in the very end but it is nice she is all clean to work on.

Carolyn,
Now don't worry, ML407 is in the best possible hands, can't think of a better place to be.
Those "boys" have been doing a wonderfull job over the years and have given you a very reliable aircraft to display to all of us..  I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to watch them occasionally over the years.

Regards
Andy

PS I hear Dell Boy down in Peckham is thinking of setting up a repair shop under the arches !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Carolyn;

I'm sure ML407 will roll out of the hangar looking like brand new again ready to take to the skies in no time. Make sure they put the seat back in though!!

Cheers,
Clive from Canada.

No worries about the seat - Stevie K always checks that it's been put back...

Well if they have some spare time maybe the maintenance  folks could go help out MT818,  i would love to see  MT818 and ML407 fly together.  Better yet, get ALL the 2 seaters fly together!

When undertaking repairs and servicing, how easy do you find it to obtain any parts required, is there a hidden stash of Spitfire spares lurking in an old hanger or do you have them made to order, how do other vintage aircraft owners source their spares?

its hard enough finding spares for chipmunks (a lot younger than our favourite Spitfire) - i wish there was a secret stash for those - i think the maxim - 'don't break it'  comes to mind quite often.  no-one likes to see planes in hangars waiting for the illusive 'bit' to be uncovered

With regard to the earlier engine change, was the source of the metal in the filters discovered? I am assuming the engine has been torn down by now.  Regards from the USA.. JT
