I love ML407!

« on: March 02, 2011, 03:44:51 PM »

Just a reminder that Steve and I will be flying down to Southampton airport on Friday at about 14.30 to arrive at 15.00 to be in place to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the first flight of 'the Spitfire' K5054.  This is an incredible honour to be involved in th is important anniversary.  I will be flying first at 11.30 on a route around Southampton and to Trafalgar Docks to launch the fundraising campaign for the £2m for the building of the Spitfire Monument at Trafalgar Docks.

I will be re-enacting the first flight at 15.30 followed by a display at Southampton Airport.  The airport is not sadly open to the public for this part but those in the area will see it.

Hi Carolyn;

I hope that you have good weather for the event. It's a privilege for me to help keep ML407 flying because without the help of other supporters from all over, I wonder if ML407 would even be there to re-enact such a historic event? Still, with the number of Spitfires flying, I'm glad that it is "our" Spitfire that will be there.

I wonder if Mr. Mitchell could have envisioned Spitfires still flying 75 years after his prototype took to the skies?

Cheers,
Clive from Canada.

Ollie,
Carolyn won't be able to go too fast as she will have Stevie K in the back, although technically it is not his aircraft as it will be in the air and not on the ground we don't want him to take a sick bag with him....LOL

Hopefully someone will do a bit of filming etc.. I'm stuck at work so won't be able to attend with my "Box Brownie"

It was great to see Carolyn interviewed on Meridian TV last night in front of ML407, it always makes me feel proud of everyone involved with ML407 when she is in the media.
I wish that I could make it down to Southampton to see the flypast but unfortunately family calls. I hope that the weather plays ball and the sun shines so that everyone can enjoy the sight and sound of the greatest fighter ever built.

Have a great day anyone attending.

Hello, This is my first post on this forum. I have lived in Eastleigh for 27 years now and for me the best thing about living here is its connection to the Spitifre,  its always nice to see a spitfire come home! Infact I have only discovered that ML407 does more of a connection to the airport than i was aware of, you probaly all knew this but it was converted at Southampton into the 2 seat configuration.
Well it was a lovely day yesterday and i got to see ML407 take of into a steep climb and roll, whilst working on my allotment which is near to the airport.
The weather is not as good today, its totaly overcast so I imagine the display will be rather limeted as such i shall stay home, I get good views from wher i am of planes taking of and landing so i shall watch the taking of at least, im not sure if she is returning to land before heading of to trafalgar docks, or if she will fly strait there after the display.
However i shall certainly be watching the re-enactment flight and display around the airport, met office is showing slightly better conditions for that time (sunny intervals) I shall go to the railway bridge that is not far from the end of runway, if the winds stay the same as they are now which means planes taking of to the north I will get a great view as she will fly almost right over me!
I have a bottle of Spitfire ale in the fridge which i have been saving since christmas just for this event!
Lets hope the weather does clear up.
