Hi James, clicked on the schedule and then clicked on Langham which brought me to the the below website of
Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust
. The menu has all sorts of interesting places to visit. I spent quite a bit of time there after clicking on press clippings. Several were about Caroline and Ml407. Many stories about airfields with videos as well. Well worth visiting.

Thanks James,
Great to see that ML407 will be at the Goodwood Revival. It is just the most fabulous three days of classic car/bike racing, air displays, classic vehicles, shopping, all set in a late 40's thru to mid 60's setting, the attention to detail is staggering. I highly recommend it, and if you go, dress in period clothes. It attracts somewhere in the region of 130,000 spectators over the three days, so could be very good for attracting new supporters to the Grace Spitfire. Check out the Revival website.

Hello David,
Yes, that is an excellent site, really interesting. The AIX ( Airfield information exchange ) is another I highly recommend, days of good reading...

I assume that both fantastic ladies will be on the ground for a while at Duxford, with this in mind is there a chance to photo you both with me, a thorn between two roses?

Well, it's been a bit of a strange year for me, what with one thing and another, but I'm hoping against hope that this weekend will free itself up and the weather will hold so that I can make it to Duxford on Sunday. I gather from Richard's Twitter feed that he'll be flying at least one of the days, but I guess that the family will be attendance on both days. I'll probably have the minimal kit with me and will not be in my usual lonely spot, but may fetch up early and try and grab a Tiger Moth flight if they'll let me record and fly!
Anyone else planning to go?
Best wishes,
John

John,
Was planning a visit but Deborah is in having a knee replacement and is due out on Saturday so I am nursemaid I'm afraid.
Did have a Spitfire run in over the house to Farnborough last night around 1925, did not manage to see who it was but my ears got me to the front door PDQ...they are still working OK !
Regards

John, make sure you get there early and treat yourself to the Tiger Moth flight, you deserve it. Make sure you go for 30 minutes or more. I will never forgot my flight with a light drizzle, some clouds, and the wind blowing about me. Felt like the
DAWN PATROL
. It gives you a tremendous appreciation for those early pioneers of flight.

Hello all,
The work bit has panned out, so Sunday is free. (Saturday is a rather special garden party which happens once every two years and when I'm lucky enough to get invited, I can rub shoulders with the great and the good of the theatre, film and music world. The food's pretty good, too!) Hoping the weather keeps reasonable for Sunday and will leave home very early.
Andy - hope the operation has been a success and that recovery is swift and pain-free. Andrea's also in the wars a bit at the moment and having to wear a special brace to help heal a torn ligament. Must be something in the air...
I'll report back on anything of interest, although I haven't even checked the site to see who's displaying yet!
Best wishes,
John

Greetings one and all. We are off to Burghley Horse trials Saturday, but I'm hoping to make it Sunday.
Best wishes to Deborah and Andrea for a speedy recovery. Kate is still recovering from the operation on her hand (mangled between the edge of the car door and the garage door runner channel ) and as yet doesn't have much movement or grip with two of the fingers. She is hoping to drive for the first time Sunday, she's fence judging at Goring horse trials, if not i'll be on driving duty and thus the only low flying I'm likely to see is if horse and rider part company (hopefully not.)
Best wishes

Five weeks ago, I stood at the base of Niagara Falls recording the sound of the vast cataract smashing on to the rocks and I remarked that I'd been wetter, fully clothed, but only when I fell in a river. I can now state that not only was I today substantially wetter than either the river episode or Niagara, but I'm STILL wet, five hours after the rain stopped. And it's all Stevie K's fault. Allow me to elucidate: I was in a state of high euphoria, having had my quarter of an hour of fantastic fun in the Tiger Moth, complete with aerobatics and a few glorious minutes of "you have control", when I came across the esteemed Mr. Kingman: "You wouldn't record the BBMF Lancaster starting up for me, would you?" he asked. "But of course" I replied, hurrying off to have a quick lunch and to prep the portable kit.
I walked back to the barrier and elbowed my way through the throng, stepping on a few small children on the way and pushing the odd wheelchair to one side in my quest to obtain the best position to make the ace mechanic's desired recording. Then it started to rain. I donned my trusty ML407 weatherproof coat, hood up over headphones and decided to tough it out. After a while, when all the electrical circuits in the recorder were sparking merrily away and water was dripping out of the microphone windshield, I decided to take refuge behind a convenient Transit van and wring the water out of as much kit as I could. Not entirely successfully, as it happens, but at least I wasn't getting shocks any more. As the barrier was now totally devoid of punters, I squelched my way back and took up station directly behind the Lancaster. It continued to rain. A lot. Really, quite a lot. And then some more. Rain.
To cut a long story short, it rained so much that there was a certain amount of reorganization of the display and I learned, by dint of a massive RF breakthrough on my microphone from the Lancaster RT, that they wouldn't actually be displaying, rather just taking off and disappearing over the horizon at the earliest opportunity, which happened to be whilst Miss Demeanour was going through her paces and a small child with the loudest voice I've ever heard decided to ask his long-suffering dad when Concorde was going to show up and a lot of other questions besides. I briefly considered the old plastic-bag-over-the-head trick (his head, not mine, although it was a close run thing) and decided instead to make the best of a bad job and see what happened. I lost one mic circuit due to the rain and the irritating (nah, really rather sweet, just in case his dad's reading this...) child kept up a running and shouting commentary, so I'm not entirely sure that the eventual recording will satisfy our main man, but I'll see what I can dredge up.
But finally, just in time, the sun came out, seven Spitfires started up and took off, with Richard in the midst of it all and we got a superb display. I'm a bit more fond of Richard's exuberant solo work, but it was an exemplary tail-chase and a fabulous way to end the day.
Congrats to all the pilots and crew who worked hard in some truly awful weather and turned in some great display work. It's the last (and only) air-show of the year for me, and it was, eventually, a good one.
Best wishes to one and all, and here's to no surprises during the winter service. Pics and audio may trickle out over the next few days, depending on what turns up.

I've got to dry the camera, get the Barbour rewaxed, and then there might be time to get the photos sorted?
