Recording the past for the future.

Hello all,

As promised, there's a new ML407 CD in the works, which should be available at the end of the week: it's a little bit different from the previous disc, in that it's got some music on it as well as some really terrific recordings of ML407 and many others. in particular, there are two sequences using music that Carolyn and Richard display to - The Spitfire Prelude & Fugue and Nimrod - and a recreation of a Battle Of Britain skirmish, mixed with Walton's Battle In The Air. This sequence uses actuality recordings of aerial battles from WW2 along with edited sections of Spitfire and Hurricane recordings made by me over the last couple of years.

For those of you who weren't able to make it to Duxford last year, there's a recording of the massed Spitfire flypast and the subsequent display, in which Richard took part. There's also Richard's solo display debut, Carolyn's display from Bentwaters Airs Show and her display over Leysdown On Sea for the Historic Airfields occasion. And there's more! Two WW2 popular songs lend themselves to this disc - The Spitfire Song, during which ML407 and friends have a bit of a fly around, and a romantic number called "He Wears a Pair Of Silver Wings". Over an hour of music and Merlins (and lots of other engines) oh, and a Skylark and a rather special bell...

Now for the hard sell: this is a strictly limited edition of 250 and there's space on the CD itself for a signature, to make the discs even more valuable. no price decided as yet, but it won't be sky high, and all profits go to ML407, as usual. So bring a few extra quid with you on Saturday and expand your collection. I'll upload a quick picture when I get a moment. And remember, once they're gone, they're gone.

See lots of you there, I hope!

Best wishes,

John

If it makes a noise, I'll record it. If it moves and makes a noise, I'll record it in in high definition surround-sound.

Hi Andy and others,

Just to clarify - the CDs go directly to Carolyn from the duplicator, so I don't actually ever get to see one before anyone else. I had a call from the company this morning to say that the CDs should be delivered to Bentwaters on Friday at the latest, so they should be generally available at The Gathering. I did suggest to Carolyn that she should charge extra for signed ones and even more for ones signed by Richard as well, but they may both be a little bit busy on Saturday. The CDs are coated with a protective lacquer, so something like a Sharpie will be needed for an indelible autograph. ML407 gets to benefit from the full price of the CDs, by the way, so it's a direct cash injection to the fund which, given how much an engine rebuild costs, is something the fund could well do with, it seems to me.

Andy - look forward to seeing you again, but I'm afraid the wine will have to be between you and your friend - doctor's orders  Roll Eyes

See you soon,

John

Excellent news John - a definite purchase for Saturday - just what I need for regular long journeys to Wales.

See you all on Saturday.

Dear John & Carolyn
My dad Denis who has been to 3 gatherings with myself is not able to attend this year as he is undergoing a 4th cycle of chemotherapy, (3 yrs post diagnosis) Is it possible to buy one of these cds as a surprise for him. Carolyn knows the circumstances with dad and has been very kind and accommodating already (You know what I mean Carolyn)

Please let me know if this is possible

Regards and have a good gathering
