I love ML407!

« on: March 28, 2007, 06:17:42 PM »

;DHi there, Mr. Larry Hill of Auckland NZ emailed me here in Nashville, Tennesse yesterday to inform me about the survival and restoration of the ML407 Spitfire.

The reason I'm interested is that my late father, USAF Col. James R. Haun, spent 30 days in 1943 flying as Johnny Checketts' wingman in the 485 Squadron.

Even more amazing, because in publishing my Dad's memoir, Spitfire Wingman from Tennessee, I used photos from Johnnie Houlton's book Spitfire Strikes to get Squadron ID lettering for the creation of our book's cover painting -- it turns out that our cover actually depicts (quite unintentionally) Caroline Grace's aircraft.

I will try to upload an image of the cover soon.

I'm sure people will find this interesting, perhaps you could post it in the general discussion area once you have finished testing here in the sand box Smiley
