Hi All
Please don't go there Andy and Clive !! My post Xmas project has been the Classic Airframes Meteor FR9 .Now the lobotomy scars have healed, the Valium and Diazapam doses are reduced to a dose that will only stun a bull elephant and the drinking is now only a crate of Pils a day...I can report that with perseverance and the patience of a saint,,it makes into a very nice model. Think I'll take a leaf out of Ken's book and stick to straight forward familiar subjects ! Nice model by the way Ken
Leave you all to it

Ken, a really beautiful job.  I have a Chinese-made version of the same model but nowhere as detailed as yours.  Are those two different size cannon plus four
.303 machine guns?  Also, are the panels on top of the wing, cannon servicing ports?

Nice model.

It ought to be 2x 20mm and 2x .50 and then the 4x .303 IIRC.

It is ages since I've made a model, I've about 5 in various stages of construction. I am not helping my self by buying more as time goes on.

Classic Airframes; I've got their Defiant and would like the Anson. I am also tempted by the forthcoming Airfix 1/24 mossie and Trumpter...why did they have have to release a Hurri in 1/24.

*Sobs*

Something that helps to get rid shine under the decal is spraying the model after painting with floor polish (honest!), I've utterly forgortten the brand name so will post it later on, but a few coats of that via airbrush produce a lovely gloss base that produces less airpockets and therefore much less silvering under the decals.

ITS FUTURE Floor Polish! Sold by Johnsons in the UK! Smiley Senility has not struck yet Smiley

Hi Matt
Yes I like the floor polish (formerly known as Kleer) for dipping transparent parts in, but haven't the b******s to spray over an entire model. My personal preference is Hannants Xtracolour  then matting down as appropriate . I too am working through my 'loft insulation' ,but am tempted by a forthcoming 1/48th. Sunderland. (Fell in love with the beastie on a recent FOD event when we were allowed to explore the inside of Duxfords example.)...Better start planning a pond in the back garden !!
Cheers

That's it! I remember the 'Kleer' bit whilst in bed last night.

A 1/48 Sunderland....OMG, I think I'd be shot if I bought one of those. In my case, until we have a suitable shed in the garden, modelling activities have stopped since I've nowhere to keep them once made.

Hi everyone.

Johnson Klear is brilliant stuff, you can air brush strait from the bottle no need to
thin.
David, just the standard two cannon,four303 machine gun's,the kit came with a
choice of two cannon servicing covers.

Guy's it great there are other model builders/potentional builders,on the message
board. Many thanks for the kind words and encouragement.

Be well. Ken.  Grin

Hi all;

Darn nice Spitfires!

After painting, I lay down a couple of coats of future floor wax, apply the markings and when dry seal them in with future. When it's all dry, shoot a coat of Humbrol flat over it to remove the shine. They look painted on when all is said and done.

The great thing about future is if you mess up, it can be removed with ordinary window cleaner that has some ammonia in it!

Now if you want modelling fun, try a Classic Airframes Walrus. Looks like it's going to be  a pig!

As for "shake the box and a model falls out" project,  Tamiya seem to have the lock on that. Their Corsair and Wildcat aircraft look great. Have a Swordfish to build as well.

My current project that I haven't started yet is a commission build of a Revell Queen Mary 2 liner!

Cheers,
Clive. Stranded in the colonies. (Canada)

Hi All
Just a couple of comments: For those who have not used Xtracolour enamel paint, these accurate colours dry quickly to a very fine gloss finish, negating the need to apply a gloss 'decal ready' surface. Airbrushed they are superb, but like all products there is no short cut to experience !
Classic Airframes are basically short/limited run (mainly) injection kits...some are better than others. The instructions can be vague in detail and the importance of 'dry' fitting cannot be over emphasised along with the required surgery. The extra effort will pay dividends as they do make up into really nice models .Also, check your references as to the particular aircraft being modeled as manufacturers sometimes  base their kits on restored or museum examples...not necessarily the operational variant. Tamiya based their original Meteor F1 (without airbrakes ) on (presumably ) Cosfords exhibit which had been retro fitted with wings from the F3 with airbrakes .A reissue followed later with the correct wing .
Research is the enemy of the finished model !!
Have fun
