Recording the past for the future.

Thanks, Matt. I looked at the Canon 350D and whatever the similarly priced Nikon was at the time a year or two ago and found that the Nikon felt more familiar in my hands, but your suggestion of taking a card and shooting some test shots is an excellent idea. Now all I need to do is find a decent camera shop (Jessops, Jessops, Jessops, all I see is Jessops) and spend some time. I'll let you know how it goes.

Regards,

John

Thanks to ebay, my old Pentax kit and a chap in Scotland who wanted to convert his birthday present into cash, I'm now the proud owner of a brand new Nikon (sorry Darren) D80, with 2 batteries, 4 Gig memory card, 18mm-135mm lens AND 55mm-200mm lens, for the princely sum of £520. All brand new in box, UK warranty and all the bits and pieces.

All I have to do now is learn to use it!

Look out for some truly terrible pictures...

Regards,

John

Nicely done.

With the D80 apparently using 1/3 or 1/2 underexposure helps. some people think the D80 slightly over cooks the highlights when left at the default setting (i.e straight meter reading).

Then again I often use the D300 with a third of a stop of underexposure to protect the highlights anyway.

Getting to love it as we speak - but now I want really good, fast, long lens. Time to sell the house...

Thanks,

John

I am there with you on that one....

the 200mm you have should be alright for shots at Dux as the come round the bend but it is too short for stuff beyond that, unless they are formation shots I guess.
