Clive,
Like you I prefer piston power to converters of kerosene to noise !!!

However if you look on UTUBE those who went to Waddington had 2 of Avro's finest together

PA474 and XH558

Hi Krister, if you were thinking of using the train to aid your quick departure back to Stanstead on Sunday, forget it !!
The link railway line to the airport is closed all day for engineering works, so buses will replace the trains.

The weather forecast isn't great for the morning - a big dollop of heavy rain centred over Duxford, but it looks as though it might clear for the afternoon's flying. I probably shan't get there until 11.30 ish and will no doubt have to argue my way through to the overflow car-park, so may miss the early morning meet. But here's hoping we get some good flying in finally.

Best wishes to all,

John

Duxford report - 12:45 Sunday

Wet, wild and windy here, but with a vague promise that things will clear up later today and there will some flying. I'm all on my own at the end of the overspill car park, which may be useful for reducing external noise if there is to be any flying today. A very nice one of Darren's shots of Carolyn and ML407 on the inside title page of the programme and some interesting things to look at in the hangars. ML407 looking trim on the flight-line, but very little else in evidence when I walked down there earlier on this morning.

Will report back if anything of interest occurs!

Bye for now,

John

John,
Was a bit draughty and damp today so attendance was very low, if I knew you were there I would have popped along.
We did see a few aircraft flying in the murk, at one point they said the cloudbase was 300' at the east end and 800' to the west.
I left around 4pm  to run Krister (Cirrus) and Anne-Marie back to Stanstead where the westher was even worse...It was very pleasant to sit in a nice warm car !!!!

Oh well pretty awful Summer...thats 2 in a row so 3rd time lucky for 2009 Huh??

Hi Andy,  sorry to have missed you - down in the overflow car-park, as usual. Not a great day: some displays late in the day, but Carolyn didn't fly, unless I missed it in the murk. Short displays from the Tucano, the T-28, the Chipmunk, the Fighter Collection's P51, the Catalina, a visiting Typhoon, The Lynx Pair, the Extra 300S, an F16 (I think), the French Alphajet display team, Mk IX MH434 and a few others I haven't identified yet. It went from wet and windy to very windy and finally, just as the displays finished, a glimpse of sun and blue sky, but it was too little, too late, I'm afraid. I'm still trying to get my feet warm, but otherwise none the worse from the weather.

Let's hope that next year brings better weather and good fortune for us all.

Regards,

John

John..You weren't the only to miss the Gatemaster !! Didn't have much time so could not hang about for too long ...
From those I spoke to in the (spacious ) FOD enclosure it seems that the 'Star of the Show' was the Typhoon. The weather was awful ,and coupled with the current economic concerns, we can but look forward to better things in 2009 .But having said that...I had a pretty good time.
Cheers

  Hi all,
Just a note to say sorry that I missed any fellow members on Sunday. I arrived too late at Duxford for the 11am at Hangar 2.
Like most others just about dried out now.

regards

Tony.
