Just picked this up from the Pasttimes chain, for all of those that just happen to have a spitfire in their back garden.
Haynes; official RAF product.
Not so much a manual, as an insight. Absolutely fascinating. Includes a paragraph of some running costs of this aircraft Shocked ( i think i should send Carolyn some more money)
The epilogue lists current airworthy or near airworthy spitfires including a small paragraph on ML 407,with a photo of her and others.
Not cheap at £17:99, but a well presented history of all marks of the spitfire.

Thanks for the tip.  Just ordered mine from Amazon and found they  have one also on the Lancaster.  If my wife sees it arrive, I'm done for.  She will think I am getting a real Spit next.

Have to say; my partner is nervously checking the garden every day now. I think  she's worried about my impulsive streak.
Not something that you can keep hidden in the shed;a spitfire............unfortunately. Sad

I don't think my girlfriend would mind if we had a Spitfire in the back garden,
           a; she likes them
b;  it would mean we had a much bigger garden than we have now
c; she knows I'd help with the weeding (near the Spitfire anyway!! )

Although not to impressed with my idea of building an Anderson Shelter though, ( make a nice shed! )

Some years ago my wife commented that if, if I ever purchased an army surplus vehicle or something like a Greyhound (not that I was seriously considering this), then she got to make a purchase of equivalent value in shoes.

So, for a Spitfire, how many acres of shoes would that be??

I'm sure most of you already know about this, but you can download a nicely OCR'd Pilot's Manual for the Mk IX, XI and XVI from here:

http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/Spitfire9_Manual.html

Fascinating reading.

So with Mr Haynes we have an idea how to restore a Spitfire, with the pilot notes we know how to operate a Spitfire, with 2nd TAF Spitfire we know all about a particular Spitfire very close to our hearts....

So all we need is a Spitfire each......Oh I wish !!!

Andy D

PS Gathering is getting very close now....

Yeah ! I was given a copy at Christmas...Not bad at all !......But if you want a real heavyweight try the Morgan &Shacklady "Spitfire:The History ".(Mrs. Tailwheel bought it for me a few years back ).It contains brief histories of all Spitfires built...All 2200+ of 'em  .So if you're presented with a photo of a Spitfire, and can discern the serial number ,you can astound all your friends with a potted history...I'll get me anorak !!
Hope to see everyone next weekend at DX
Cheers
Dave.

I think she will be the height of fashion for the rest of her life ( and a few incarnations on; at least)

My Spitfire owner's manual arrived and it's worth every penny.  Tons of info about acquiring and refitting your own plus great historical data.  It's more of
a general interest publication rather than a rebuild so don't shy away from the title.

For those of you living in the south, in West Sussex or Hampshire, The Sussex Stationers/British Bookshops chain currently has the Haynes Spitfire Manual on sale at £12.99. (£14.93 on their web-site.) Just bought mine on a visit to Chichester and can highly recommend it.

John
