That's a really nice gift. I have it on VHS and I agree, the flying is spectacular! I don't recall seeing the whole thing. It was on Masterpiece Theatre I believe.

I can report that Nick flew his restored ME109 in Piece of Cake - he was the 'badie'

Hi Cirrus;

I haven't seen those other films so I can't comment on their aerial sequences. You should see the Spitfire flown down a river bed and under the bridge. Wow! That was something to see.

I can comment further on Carolyn's comment about Nick being a "baddie" in the film. He is the fellow who fires at the two girls on the ground. Won't say anymore about it but it is an entertaining film.

Cheers,
Clive. Stranded in the colonies. (Canada)

I must get this on DVD, I remember watching it as a child (that should depress some of you Cheesy)

Dark Blue World is quite good for it's aerial sequences - the thing that I find difficult about the film is that it seems to leap forward in time through the war without any real notification about what is going on - only someone with an idea of the type of missions the RAF were flying at various times would have a reasonable idea of what period the film is in at any given time.

Empire of Sun i quite liked.

I believe it was Ray Hanna who flew under the bridge, fantastic!

   Hello again fellows!!

   More interesting for us maybe?

I found a book at our flying club written of Geoffry Wellum who become the yougest fighterpilot ever to join the RAF only 17years old!
He fly Spitfire at Duxford in the 92a and 65e sqvadron and allso take part in the battle of Malta under Tony lowell in 1435 division,
I read the book nonstop, wery interesting and it give a good insight of the days a fighterpilot has to go through.
The last year of the war he was a testpilot for Gloster Aircraft  (Typoon) and later an artelliriinstruktor,
retire from RAF in 1961 and settle down in Cornwall.

   Anyone who nows more maybe??!

   Regards,
   Krister.

Tiger Moth Debut

Yes, "First Light is a fantastic read and Geoffrey Wellum is often interviewed and quoted in documentaries.  When I had a flight at Duxford in the Tiger Moth is was a drizzlely day with lots of storm clouds so It made for a realistic ride getting the full brunt of the rain in the face as I tried to fly from the front cockpit.  It reminded me of Geoff's first solo cross country from Kidlington in terrible weather where he landed at Upavon instead of Netheravon and had quite a banter with the watch officer who seemed to be the only person (and disagreeable) on the Aerodrome.  Quite hilarious banter I might add.  This book really makes you appreciate what others have done for us.

A lot of superb flying in "Piece of Cake" - I've only seen it on Masterpiece Theater here in the states.
I've always had it that it was Ray Hanna flying under the bridge.
My best,
Mike

That's where I saw bits and pieces of Piece of Cake as well! I agree it was Ray Hanna who flew under the bridge as well. Oh by the way, it can be found on YouTube as well if anyone wants to see it.

I found my copy on VHS on Ebay. I think it set me back $15.00 which is a bargain!

Cheers,
